Earlier on today, and after a frantic last minute bidding war, your gracious host managed to snag himself an unopened, 1972 vintage bottle of Hai Karate aftershave off of eBay (it had apparently been an unwanted Christmas gift that had been knocking around ever since then).
Younger readers might not be aware of this classic fragrance or of the series of TV commercials which typically featured nerdy looking men having to fight off hordes of lusty babes who had been driven wild by the smell. In fact the stuff even came with self-defence instructions and the warning:
'Don't dare use Hai Karate without memorising this: These instructions will help you to defend yourself from women in case you apply an overdose of Hai Karate'.
I can just imagine how an aftershave - or indeed any product - marketed in such a fashion as to suggest condoning violence towards women would be received nowadays!
Interestingly enough, Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that manufactured Hai Karate, were also responsible for developing Viagra. Draw your own conclusions from that.
